Obama Blames Internets for High Unemployment

by rogueoperator

President Obama, in another display of his outstanding and highly popular grasp of America’s economic problems, blamed the Internets for high unemployment.

OBAMA: One of the challenges in terms of rebuilding our economy is – businesses have gotten so efficient, that, uh, when was the last time somebody went to a bank teller? Instead of using an ATM. Or, used a travel agent instead of going online. A lot of jobs out that that used to require people now have become automated.

Does this guy not realize that technology also creates jobs? People need to build the computer components, assemble computers, produce associated hardware, program software, manufacture software, fix computers, and in regards to the Internets, lay the fiber optics, provide high speed services, including running servers…thus someone needs to build the servers, and so on, and so on…

Did this community organizer and Constitutional lecturer ever read Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations while he was hanging out with radicals in college, as he admits? No, why should he? He only wanted to be president of the largest capitalist country on the planet!

And the Car also ruined industries like the buggy whip makers. You are correct, that technology does create jobs. Most are not union, so they are invisible to Obama.

Not going to go too hard on the guy here. He’s basically right; technological advances have taken away a ton of jobs that people used to have.

    Two more points:

    1. No one really wants to do many of those jobs anyway anymore.

    2. Folks keep mentioning a lot of the new jobs created (still considerably fewer than what were lost, however) but the education system has been so whittled down over the decades by leftist feel-good pap, that not enough “graduates” are capable of actually doing them.

Obama sure ain’t part of the solution but expecting one man to change the machine that is the US government was, is, and always will be folly.

I’ll feel a lot more reasurred when the entire basic direction of western governments changes (or is that if?).

I will be hard on him. Technology was not created under him. It has been happening since the first man built his house and moved out of a cave. He is looking for excuses, and very lame ones. ATM was not created since he became president, nor Airport Kiosks.
